Building Uganda Through Industrialisation

Welcome to the Amstrong Foundation Uganda Industrialisation Centre.

It is both an honour and a privilege to serve as the Chairman of Amstrong Foundation Uganda, an organization founded on the belief that Uganda possesses all the resources, talent, and potential required to become one of Africa's leading industrial economies. Our Foundation was established with a clear vision: to empower young people, promote value addition, strengthen local manufacturing, and contribute to sustainable economic transformation through industrial development.

From an early stage in my professional journey, I became convinced that the future prosperity of Uganda would not be achieved through the continued export of raw materials alone, but through the establishment of industries that transform our agricultural produce, minerals, and natural resources into high-value products. Every bag of coffee processed locally, every textile manufactured from Ugandan cotton, every pharmaceutical product produced within our borders, and every piece of machinery assembled by Ugandan hands represents an opportunity to create jobs, generate wealth, increase exports, and strengthen our nation's economy.

This conviction inspired me to champion industrialisation as a pathway to national development and to lead the development of the policies and strategic direction of Amstrong Foundation Uganda. Together with our dedicated Board and partners, we established the Foundation to serve as a catalyst for industrial business development, youth empowerment, manufacturing excellence, research, innovation, and policy advocacy. Our objective has always been to complement national development efforts by creating opportunities that enable Ugandans—particularly young people—to become creators of industries rather than merely consumers of imported products.

Industrialisation is more than the construction of factories. It is about building human capacity, encouraging innovation, promoting entrepreneurship, strengthening value chains, expanding exports, improving tax revenues, and creating sustainable employment. Countries such as China, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore have demonstrated that long-term prosperity is built upon productive industries, skilled citizens, technological advancement, and sound institutions. Uganda has the opportunity to follow a similar path while building on its own unique strengths and resources.

At Amstrong Foundation Uganda, we are committed to promoting evidence-based industrial development through research, training, strategic partnerships, and advocacy. The Industrialisation Centre has been established to provide practical knowledge, policy recommendations, investment insights, and regional development strategies that can guide Uganda's transformation into a competitive manufacturing economy. We believe that knowledge should inspire action and that research should translate into industries, enterprises, and improved livelihoods.

My aspiration is to see every region of Uganda develop industries that add value to its agricultural and mineral resources, creating employment close to where people live and producing goods that can compete successfully in regional and international markets. Industrialisation should become a shared national agenda that brings together government, the private sector, academia, financial institutions, development partners, and communities in pursuit of inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

I invite policymakers, investors, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, development partners, and every Ugandan who shares this vision to join us in advancing this journey. Together, we can build an economy that is resilient, innovative, competitive, and capable of providing opportunities for present and future generations.
